Review - Siege: Captain America #1

It’s amazing how having a mythological city fall on you can clear your schedule.

Even with the Norse Vs. Green Goblin war in full bloom, Captain America and his sidekick… Captain America, clearly have some issues to work through. If there’s ever going to be another Marvel/DC crossover, it should really be Steve Rodgers and Bucky going to group therapy with Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson.

This is a decent issue in and of itself. However it is a little hard to swallow the idea that the Two Caps just happen to fall in the same layer of strata from the ruins of Asgard to have a mini character exposition adventure with out interference from any of the multiplicity of heroes involved in the invasion.

Still, if you’re a Cap, fan and want to keep up with the character, where he’s headed and the results of the “Two Caps, One Shield” situation, you probably won’t want to miss this.

Cristos Gage’s story utilizes a flawed underprivileged family for a collection of “save my baby” cheap shots to keep the book compelling. Having said that, the cheap shots work. The book is very involving.

Where this issue really suffers is in the art department. Federico Delloccico’s art is consistent, but lacks detail. Makes the whole book feel like it was rushed. You can always tell what’s going on but it doesn’t really draw you in.

Over all this is a simple expository Captain America comic. It’s involvement with siege is purely circumstantial. If your interested in Captain America’s new Heroic Age direction pick this up, but if you’re just following Siege, there’s no need to snag this issue.
