Batman and the Outsiders #2
As a fan of the original Outsiders books from when I was a small child I have to say when DC announced that they were bringing this title back I was very happy. Issue 1 was okay thus far and what I expected it to be as they introduced what I thought the new Outsiders were going to be. But they changed it up here and really pulled me out of the book a little bit. Last issue the last thing we were shown was that the OMAC project was released as Metamorpho, Catwoman and Katanna were trapped in the radioactive room with this project that Bruce had helped to create oh so long ago. As the story progresses we are shown a story that has Catwoman and gang being forced to work together as OMAC must be brought down by these three in order to protect Batman’s mission they are on and to protect the world outside. It was delightful to see Metamorpho have to think about how to use his powers to defeat OMAC, to see Catwoman struggle with her usual “I do things for myself” mindset and to see Katanna be forced to help out two other people whom she does not trust. Another interesting plot twist is Batman not letting Thunder help out the team at all, because he feels that she is not ready to be part of a team as she is to emotionally invested in what happens to her life partner and teammate, Grace. Who also shows up after Metamorpho takes the OMAC down and she gets the team out of danger. Martian Manhunter also helps out in this issue by getting Bruce what he needs about this new OMAC project that has been created. As this robot is an advanced form of the ones that Bruce had created. I felt a little disappointed at the end of the issue when I learned that Catwoman and John would not be joining the team, but was delighted to see whom Bruce had contacted to take Catwoman’s place. I’m also very excited to see next issue the Justice League and the Outsiders will combat one another once again! Dixon really picked it up in this issue in my eyes and really knocked it a little further in the park this time around. It still wasn’t a home run and the loss of two of my favorite parts of the book in issue 2 was something I was not happy about but I thoroughly enjoyed this book much more so than issue 1. Carlos Rodriguez did a wonderful job drawing this issue and his work was much more fun to look at than Lopez did on issue 1 in my opinion. The story was well drawn and really had a nice flow to it and I hope that Carlos comes back for future issue. I really think that this book needs a steady artist though so that it can maintain a fan base and getting steam rolling along and be an impact book in the DC universe. Otherwise we are just going to have another book that gets canceled and 5 more characters who hate Batman in the DC Universe. More DC Comics Reviews
