G.I.Joe #19 sees the chess match between Destro and Major Bludd that has been going on for the last few issues come to fruition as Destro makes his final move, but the true chess master, Cobra Commander yet stands in Destro’s way. Meanwhile the Joes continue to learn more about the mysterious organization known as Cobra.

Overall, another enjoyable issue by writer Chuck Dixon who does a good job giving some more background information on the Destro character, especially for those who might be new to the G.I.Joe mythos.

Artist S. L. Gallant continues to do a wonderful job depicting the action that Dixon has so carefully written out and his takes on Destro’s ancestor and that of Cobra Commander who makes his first actual appearance in this issue are very interesting to see. I will say Cobra Commander seems to have more of a movie look to him in this initial appearance, which is fine, but I do hope we end up seeing him in his traditional battle attire as well at some point.

All-in-all I have very much enjoyed the ground work Dixon and company have been laying with this title, however I do hope we are in store for an action-packed payoff issue sooner rather than later, other than that though I think this title continues to be a great read and highly recommend you check it out.
